A very good interview with Marc Duffy from SI Games can be found at the following URL :
http://blogs.sega.com/europe/2008/03/07/qa-with-football-manager-live-product-manager-marc-duffy/
It gives you an insight into where the game has come from to its original level and I myself found it very interesting.
A very interesting picture of Marc at the end and anyone else suspicous that Marc claims not to know where the "carpet burners" name came from.......
Enjoy

Rankings......to go to bed or to not go to bed, that is the question
I am 25 years old and its 11:25pm Monday 10th March 2008....having had a rare period of fine victories I am in a difficult position.
Do I quit whilst I am ahead and stop playing games knowing it will benefit my ranking position? Or do I take the risk of "just one more game" and hope that whilst not really knowing how I have suddenly become an UBER manager that I can somehow win one more game?
The answer is of course I play that "one last match" and lose 3-1. Therefore I have to play "one last match" yet again as nobody can go to bed on the back of the defeat can they? We have all been there with the FM series where we seriously think it we might have nightmares if we go to bed on the back of a defeat. Plus with work the next day and no access to FML all day can I really handle sitting at my desk knowing my last match was a defeat? I play again and draw 1-1 and I am reasonably happy.
The time though is approaching midnight, when the new financial projections are being lined up by the game and the new rankings are being worked out. Surely at 25 years old I am mature enough just to go to bed as my ranking position isn't going to be effected by me being awake to see the results?
So I risk falling asleep at work the next day simply to see the rankings thus proving beyond all doubt that I am sad and I can tell you I am no alone. As one GM7 player stated "we are really all quite sad eh?" and I have to say that never was there a truer comment in any chatroom in the world.......that said I can tell you it was worth the wait as I rise to my highest ever ranking of 320 in the world! I was buzzing, which can only mean one thing right?
I play "one more game" as I am now ranked 320th in the world and I can see the glory of a position in the top 300 in the world ahead of me....
Yet another 1-1 draw (my 4th draw in six matches) and I decide that its time to call it a night.
In the morning the wife asks what time I turned the game off last night...my answer?
Err about 11pm, she says that is ridiciolous as I have to be up for work at 6...god knows what she would say if I had told the truth?
I have posted a screenshot of my ranking today, unfortunately I have slipped back down the rankings so it could be a long night in the NFA tonight as I try and get into the top 300 players. The rankings are based on your results and the ranking positions of other teams. In theory you would be better of playing say 6 matches against high ranked teams and say winning 4 of them than playing 12 games against low ranked teams and winning 10.
The ranking pictures show that its not just about playing games (as I have played in some cases near on 80 more games than folk ahead of me - abeit I have to admit I have probably lost 70 of those extra 80 games) its about building a strong squad capable of challenging against the top teams and not just trying to manipulate the rankings by hammering teams even worse than you are (in my case).
You will also see a pic of where I want to be, the elite rankings which are on page 1 of 27 whilst I am on page 15 of 27! And yes there really is a woman 2nd in the rankings!

Welcome to my blog
Hi there
I have recently started BETA testing Football Manager Live and am going to blog both my own and the game's progress for as long as I am allowed to test the game...
All the background information you need to know is contained at http://www.footballmanagerlive.com/ and via the SI forums at http://www.sigames.com/ - No I don't know whatever happened to Kevin Tom either regarding the original Football Manager.
I have currently played 95 games as J21 Ultras in GW7 and am currently playing in the NFA federation. Unfortunately I have to confess that the majority of these 95 games have been defeats but thankfully FM Live spares us detailed stats confirming how many defeats I have actually had....a possible addition to the real game perhaps?
So far I have really enjoyed playing the game and indeed have had to at least once a night put up with "YOU ARE OBSESSED" shouts from the missus as I leave the living room on a toilet vacation and return 30 minutes later cursing my latest defeat. The biggest compliment I can pay the makers of the game is to say the game runs superbly and is hugely addictive. Its most like Champ Man 0102 and in terms of actual playability no game comes close to this.
Initial Hits :
TRAINING - not having to wade through billions of options just to try and get one of those illusive green attributes to show that you do actually know what your doing is such a bonus. We all want to see our players improve but the way its done here is simple and I am happy that I do not have to visit my local professional team training park to understand what I am doing.
INTERACTION - Being able to play against other players is brilliant and is proper interaction where previously in FM you tried to say the right things to appease your board/fans it now actually really means something and the response is usually immediate. Say the wrong thing and the toys are literally flying of in any direction. Nothing better than sitting in the chat section watching two folk arguing over a friendly result.
There's lots of different type of characters on FM Live, some talk all the time, others will say nothing other than GL, there's good sports and then there's those folk who you batter (on the park) for 89 minutes but cant score, they breakaway and score yet they don't even have the good grace to apologise but instead choose to shout YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS in huge size 80 (well thats how it feels!) letters to really rub it in that despite dominating your yet again heading for a defeat. Overall it does add so much to the enjoyment of the game.
ADDICTION - I can not stress how important this attribute is for a football game yet it is the hardest to acheive, making you want to come back for more, it takes a special game where your first choice after a 6-1 hammering at home is to play another game and not find out if there's a way of restarting without saving - for the record there is not.
Well that rounds of my first blog entry, in future I will update more with regard to the game and my own season. Next time round I will let you know exactly how many of those 95 games have been defeats and discuss more aspects (both good and bad) that FM Live has.
P.S HANDY HINTS FOR CHAT
GL - Good Luck - even if through gritted teeth its nice to be nice right?
GG - Good Game - best left to the end of a reasonably close game, if you've just hammered someone 6-0 its probably best to come up with an alternative saying...
LOL - Laugh Out Loud - Usually after a funny comment, probably not wise to say LOL when you score against your opponent?
